Initially, I got the feel of this being a creature/person utterly incapable of flying a kite, having gotten tangled in every thing that they crossed. After a few minutes, though, a different image sort of emerged. Someone that has resigned themselves to a prison and attempted to make themselves comfortable in a situation they should be desperately attempting to escape. My critique is primarily from the second point of view.
1. The masking/subtraction of colour to create the vegetative illusion works really well. It conveys a very organic feel to the image.
2.The stark contrast of the rigid lines/bars to the natural flowing of the central character is why it feels much like a prison situation. If this were merely a goof by our protagonist, I would expect the non-natural elements to feel equally flowing and whimsical. But they feel very definite, immutable.
3. Even with the hard lines, the Goldbergesque trap that the hero managed to get tangled in makes me chuckle. I think it is a sense of having been there, along with the colour choice for the bars/lines.
